Vittorio Triunfo, number one of the Park of the Lucanian Apennines Val d'Angri Lagonegrese (protected natural area located in the province of Potenza), spoke in the last few hours of the wild boars present in the area and of the their proliferation. This is a problem that is not and will not be underestimated, also because ungulates need not fear predators and competitors on the territory.
Since the beginning of 2017, 315 wild animals have been killed in the various municipalities that fall within the Lucanian park, with an increase in slaughter in the last month. Triunfo thanked i selecontrollers for the work done, asking to distribute the hunting pressure evenly. The president of the Parco dell'Appennino Lucano called for a greater number of traps and fixed and mobile structures to be placed on sites that are less accessible, or near roads and houses.
The number of wild boars will have to become compatible with the conservation of agricultural ecosystems, restoring them better conditions for farmers and residents. A control plan and the quantification of the minimum number of wild boars to be killed are being studied. Finally, it is about to be ready a supply chain plan to collect, slaughter and distribute the meat of the ungulates taken.
