The Secretary General of the Italian Wilderness Association, Franco Zunino, writes a letter in defense of Nature to the Prime Minister Mateo Renzi asking for the application of the spending review to the Italian Parks. “Dear Prime Minister, we are writing to appeal to you in defense of Nature. Apply the spending review to our Parks! prevent the waste of public money by establishing other protected areas, whether they are desired by Italian environmentalism or whether they are solicited by Europe ". "Prevent the hundreds of Italian SCIs, SPAs and SACs (the European nation with the largest number of such sites, because we Italians always lack seriousness even in the most serious matters!) From becoming" protected areas "pursuant to Law 394 and therefore state-funded entities. Reduce the extension of the existing Parks by obliging the various national and regional bodies to plan the disposal of useless territories for the purpose of nature conservation, that REAL nature which often represents only 50% and sometimes even less than the so-called protected areas; we ask this because funding for National and Regional Parks is often given precisely, not on the basis of the value they must protect, but on the extent of their territories: therefore, the larger the Parks, the more public money they require! Centralize and eliminate the Bodies.
Obligations to transform many Parks and Reserves into streamlined and simple Wilderness Areas and / or Environmental Protection Zones on the basis of the powers of local autonomy, areas and areas that, if they need defense, do not need public funding for their management , nor of administrative apparatuses to be filled with "armchairs" and related salaries and various prebends.
Imitate Obama: obliges the autonomous bodies of the Parks to spend money only for strictly indispensable and permanent staff, and for the acquisition and / or rental of woods and mountains and the management of fauna and flora for conservation purposes only, and prevent any other expense that does not have this managerial purpose (and you have no idea how many useless expenses the Parks make: one for all, the various magazines and publications: all the same and all not essential except for those who manage them and those who public!).
It will save Italy and save the nature of our country more than it can by financing crazy projects for studies and "enhancement" of the environment, which ALWAYS turn out to be a damage to Nature. Protected nature at no cost, this is what Italy and its environment need, not public caravans! Discover the hot water of the American Wilderness Areas, which this year are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the law that provides for them, strictly defending them at ZERO COST for the community.
Italy is full of Parks and Reserves whose defense can be achieved without public management and administration apparatuses; do not listen to those who tell you that without public money and without public employees, protected areas cannot exist. We could make you a long list of useless protected areas, defensible protected areas, often even better, without management systems or with apparatuses reduced to a flicker. Finally, eliminate or reduce even the constraints that are not strictly indispensable, and you will save the Parks, their Nature, Italy and the State! "
