Just to disprove those who do not want to believe in the exponential growth of the Wolf. In the 60s of the last century the Wolf in the USA was only more present in the north of the State of Minnesota (with groups in Wisconsin and Michigan) with less than 500 specimens. There were about 1.000 in 1974 when the wolf was included among the particularly protected species (in 1980 there were about 1.200 in Minnesota alone). Until about 15 years ago that remained the only growing population in the US. After some of its reintroductions made a little less than twenty years ago, the species then spread to other 6 states where it began to reproduce, so much so that between 2011 and 2012 the Obama administration decided to remove it from the list of particularly protected species. .
Well, 2.570 have been legally killed since then! That is, say the friends of the American Wolf, about half of the population as a whole, of which 1.611 only in Idaho, Montana and Wyoming (where 66 specimens had been reintroduced in 1995-96), and 562 in Minnesota alone (remember that there were less than 500 in the mid-60s!). In contrast: in the meantime, operations are being carried out to reintegrate the Mexican wolf. American seriousness lies precisely in this: it protects only where and when it is needed, given that the Wolf cannot allow itself to grow indiscriminately because of the social problems it entails; not "just any wolf as long as there is a wolf", as happens here!
The same can be said for neighboring France, where the wolf "coming from the Apennines" has expanded in a way that is unparalleled in Italy (evidently, the "French erotic" effect also affected the animal's sexual abilities !). Not to mention Spain, Norway and Sweden, despite the veto that, according to the Italian "lupophiles", Europe would put (evidently, like many other directives, they are interpreted "ad Statum"!). Lupo-luna Comment: only in Italy the wolf does not "sweep"! Who knows, maybe the fact that he made it into an untouchable Totem ended up making him impotent!
Meanwhile, instead of facts and data (including millions of Euros of unpaid damages, badly paid and late or, worse, that nobody wants to pay) we continue to propose the usual trite solutions to tackle the problem of the Wolf overpopulation: always and in any case deny (as certain lawyers teach the cheated!) population growth, reduce the amount of damages by not paying for doubtful ones, possibly placing them as much as possible on the phantom wild dogs (today it is fashionable to give it also to hybrids) and, in conclusion…, let the breeders keep the Wolf!
Risk of assaults on humans? Absolutely denied despite the many tests of the past and present (the latest in Umbria in 2013): a taboo even to talk about it (it seems to read about the partisan epic of… “Pansiana” publishing). Let's just hope that sooner or later a "beast" like that of the French Gevaudan of 1764 or of Pacentro (Majella) of 1839 does not come up again!
On the disputed origin of the growing population in the Alps? Experts are getting by in the simplest way: denying the validity of the Apennine subspecies, so: "today, thanks to the results of genetic investigations, (the scholars ed) are more inclined not to consider the populations living in the Mediterranean as a separate subspecies, but part of a single subspecies, Canis lupus lupus which lives in central and northern Eurasia with different geographical varieties ". That is, one day they will get away with recognizing the Alpine variety as a stand-alone variety (which, coincidentally, already has behavioral and phenotypic characteristics different from the Apennine ones, but which are denied, to prevent its French origins from being recognized!).
Here, the usual Italians: A LOT of hypocrisy and mystification, NEVER reasonableness. But we will soon suffer the consequences, the environmentalists "lupophiles" in credibility, and the Wolf ... on his skin. Unfortunately, the Wolf, like all Nature, does not defend itself (or should not defend itself) with lies, but with the reality of facts as they do in countries where scientific seriousness is combined with reasonableness.
