Agriculture on its knees
The main Abruzzo agricultural organizations -Cia-Agricoltori Italiani, Confagricoltura, Copagri and Liberi Agricoltori Abruzzo- take to the streets today, Tuesday 13 May, for a large joint demonstration at the Hemicycle of the Regional Council of L'Aquila, starting at 10:00. The initiative arises from the growing emergency related to wild fauna out of control, which is bringing agriculture, road safety and internal territories to their knees.
The requests
Devastated fields, torn down fences, preyed upon animals and increasingly unsustainable costs for agricultural businesses: this is the daily reality that thousands of farmers have been living with for some time.
The organizations ask:
● Timely and adequate compensation
● Immediate containment of wild boars
● Controlled management of deer and wolves
● Involvement of farmers in decisions.
Common sense and rules
“This is not a clash with wildlife,” say the organizations’ representatives, “but a request for common sense and rules, to protect both the environment and those who live and work in it every day.” Citizens, mayors, local administrators and a symbolic column of 50 tractors will be present. During the event, a document with 10 operational proposals for effective and shared management will be presented.
