Wildlife damage
“Finally, within the budget law there is a provision which also puts the Regions in a position to intervene against damage to wildlife. The norm, strongly desired by the minister Lollobrigida, is aimed at countering the indiscriminate and harmful proliferation of wildlife, starting with wild boars, making it possible to intervene decisively and with the hope of minimal effectiveness. It is certainly a strengthening of the strategies of contrast which up to now were too bland and, as the facts demonstrate with the presence of wild boars within the metropolitan cities, absolutely ineffective.
Crops devastated
We pay out millions of euros each year in damages to farmers for devastated crops and to motorists for accidents caused by wild boars and wildlife in general. We certainly cannot solve the problem of accidents by fencing off tens of thousands of kilometers of roads to prevent them from crossing. This is a serious and courageous rule and it is sad to see that most of the communication on the matter is based on superficiality and a grotesque representation of reality: this rule cannot be told and described as if tomorrow anyone were authorized to shoot with a side-by-side shotgun city or inside national parks and shoot undisturbed wild boars and so on.
Populations to be reduced
The rule provides for serious and rigorous passages under the control of the Forestry, with the authorization of Ispra and the Istituto Superiore della Sanità and on the basis of an ascertained need on the part of the Regions and Municipalities to contain or reduce the population of animal species invasive and destructive". This was stated by the president of the Abruzzo Region, Marco Marsilio.
