Damage to businesses
A regional fund of 200 thousand euros is coming, destined to compensate for the damages to agricultural businesses "in areas with programmed hunting management" caused by wild fauna in the period from 1 July 2023 to 1 July 2024. The Region, therefore, has made every effort to find the resources, and this is an excellent result achieved, but it is not enough. To say it today is CIA Veneto which specifies: they cover just 22% of the requirement. The damages declared between the second half of 2023 and the first of the current year amount to a total of over 900 thousand euros.
The maximum contributions
In fact, according to what was established by the relevant Regional Council Resolution, 991 of 27 August 2024, each individual agricultural company will be able to receive contributions from Avepa, the Veneto Agency for Payments in Agriculture, up to a maximum of 25 thousand euros. “We recognize the regional administration's commitment to having set aside a specific fund, although not sufficient to compensate for all the damages - emphasizes the director of Cia Veneto, Maurizio Antonini -. The path taken is the right one, but the relevant budget chapter must be implemented”.
Adequate compensation
A request, this, that Cia Veneto forwards directly to the Region and to the competent Ministry, explaining that wild boars, but not only, destroy entire crops of cereals, as well as vineyards. And they do it also simply by crossing the fields. "We need - concludes Antonini - adequate compensation. In any case, this criticality should not be downloaded only on the world of agriculture. The increase in production costs, climate change and, indeed, wild fauna risk knocking out the Veneto agricultural sector. We ask the institutions for concrete support and not generic promises" (source: CIA).
