No to skills rebounds
The Lombardy Region will activate a task force in the next few days to coordinate all activities dedicated to wildlife control. This was announced by the Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Alessandro Beduschi. “With this structure – explains Beduschi – we want to call everyone to their responsibilities and above all remove alibis, lapses in skills and impediments which often, at a local level, prevent regular activity to control the proliferation of nutria, deer and wild boars. These animals increasingly cause accidents and damage to the territory, agriculture and private individuals. Their control is complex but absolutely necessary. This requires the commitment of all those involved, from the provincial police, the Alpine hunting areas and districts, as well as the hunting world”.
Obstacles to remove
“The new task force – continues the councilor – has the aim of making the efficiency and implementation of regulations punctual and daily, removing negligence, obstacles and personalism that distance us from the resolution of a problem that could generate very serious consequences. On a weekly basis we will have the data available to find immediate solutions, bypassing a system of reports that are now dispersed across different sites or are even made verbally, not allowing us full knowledge of the situations we want to resolve. Each province will be responsible for coordinating actions and determining numbers that will be evaluated weekly."
The culls of 2023
“In the case of wild boar control – continues Beduschi – the Swine Fever emergency is still very high and the front exposed today is from the south, that is from Emilia-Romagna. Much has been done, with 15.500 culls in 2023 and, in this sense, the province of Pavia has worked commendably, but today everyone is called to give their best and not only in Lombardy. This is why in recent days I have summoned the presidents of the provinces of Pavia, Lodi and Cremona, who represent the last line of defense of our farms in the suitable areas of Brescia, Mantua and Cremona itself". “Everyone should be reminded – concludes councilor Beduschi – that the provisions for the control of the PSA are regulated by an order from President Fontana and that any failure to comply with the provisions can have consequences and reporting any shortcomings is an obligation. If we are certain that someone is obstructing the application of the ordinance without justification, they will be criminally reported" (source: Lombardy Region).
