Wildlife Management: L'Aquila, the Environment - Hunting and Fishing Sector of the Province of L'Aquila and the Wildlife Hunting Unit of the Provincial Police have completed the training program for the management of wild boars, consisting in the specialization of volunteer personnel through a specific course approved by ISPRA.
The course, held in L'Aquila, was attended by 130 hunters who are added to the approximately 1100 previously trained through similar initiatives carried out throughout the provincial territory.
The 32-hour lesson course was held by the staff of the Provincial Wildlife Nucleus - Venatory Police which has long been specialized in wildlife management and boasts numerous collaborations for the training of volunteer staff or for wildlife management interventions, with other Provinces. and Park Authorities and by the staff of the ASL Veterinary Service of L'Aquila for health matters concerning the correct treatment of the remains of hunted game with particular regard to safeguarding public health.
The specialization of hunters is provided for by the Guidelines of the Ministry of the Environment, issued through ISPRA, and is mandatory to implement the provincial wildlife management plans.
The courses, in addition to classroom lessons, include an outing from the field with practical demonstrations of the topics covered and at the end a theoretical and practical final exam; at the end, the hunters who have obtained the qualification will be registered in a special provincial register and used, as required by law, under the coordination of the Provincial Police to carry out wildlife censuses, foraging, controlled reintroduction of rarefied species and selective sampling.
"Training is an indispensable tool - declared the Councilor for the Environment, Hunting and Fishing, Giuseppe Tiberio - to formally adapt our activity to the Ministerial Guidelines and Directives of the European Community also to give those additional cognitive tools to hunters who they allow the hunting activity to be increasingly transformed into a constant commitment to eco-sustainable management of the "fauna resource".
This seems to us an achievable goal, which the hunters themselves have matured and which is necessary for a territory such as that of our Province of extreme wildlife - environmental importance.
"Thanks to the six Territorial Areas of Provincial Hunting for the prompt willingness shown in adhering to the training programs, also supporting part of the organization expenses, the staff of the Nucleo Faunistico Venatorio for the commitment and professionalism that has always been lavished in all the activities of competence, the ASL Veterinary Service of L'Aquila for the qualified collaboration offered and the course secretariat. - Concludes Tiberio - For the future, further training courses, census programs and wildlife management are planned.
These are initiatives that will allow us to quickly achieve an adequate and permanent wildlife-hunting management with a view to a balanced relationship between hunting, protection of fauna and agricultural activities ".
