A Modena the new was presented Wildlife Hunting Plan of the Emilia Romagna Region and the regional councilor for hunting, Simon Caselli, spoke of the main objective to be achieved, that is, greater compatibility of the wildlife with the activity of man. The document is under discussion and will be approved in 2018.
Among the main innovations that have been summarized, we must remember the expansion of the non-conservation areas for impacting species (ungulates in primis), so as to defend even the hilly areas. The plan also updated the situation relating to biodiversity, taking a cue from the various provincial plans. Among the major problems are the expansion of several species, ie wild boar, roe deer and pheasant, while hares, partridges and red partridges have registered a decline.
Among other things, a worrying trend has also emerged. The number of Emilian hunters is decreasing: in particular, in the Modena area the hunting cards have passed from over 5500 seven years ago to the current 4 thousand. In the whole region, then, a small minority (just 4%) are under the age of 30, while the prevailing age (78%) is over 50 years. The role of the hunting world is always considered fundamental, but these numbers cannot be ignored.
