Recovery centers
The Lombardy Region has allocated 510.000 euros for wildlife in favor of the Cras, i Wildlife Rescue Centers. The resolution approved by the Giunta on the proposal of the Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests, Alessandro Beduschi, is in concert with the Councilor for Land and Green Systems, Gianluca Comazzi. “These centers – Councilor Beduschi said – carry out rescue and care activities in Lombardy for wild animals. They are assisted because they are injured or in difficulty, for the most disparate causes. Just to give a few examples, the interventions concern road accidents, contact with poisonous substances or in the case of birds with high voltage cables. The funds therefore represent an important contribution to the protection of fauna. In 2022 alone, 13.000 specimens of avifauna and mammals were cared for in the facilities".
Faunistic heritage
“With over half a million euros – commented councilor Comazzi – we demonstrate once again the commitment of the Lombardy Region for the protection of its wildlife heritage. In fact, the funds guarantee the continuity of the veterinary assistance services provided by the recovery centres. The Cras are therefore fundamental safeguards for the protection of the territory and the wild animals that inhabit it. In Lombardy alone there are 9 recovery centers for wild animals. They are therefore a precious resource for the conservation of fauna and the protection of the environment in our region”.
The total disbursements
The Cras authorized in Lombardy are currently located in the provinces of Milan (2) Mantua (2), Bergamo, Brescia, Lecco, Pavia and Sondrio. In the last three years, the Lombardy Region has disbursed a total of 1,3 million euros for these activities. The contribution allocated for 2023 will be divided following the reporting carried out in 2022. The Cras, together with the First Aid centres, the Lombardy Region and Ersaf participate in the Network which guarantees homogeneous lines of intervention for the rescue and recovery of wildlife. “The Cras – concluded Beduschi – play a fundamental role in protecting the faunal heritage and biodiversity of Lombardy. They also carry out environmental education activities on the most correct rules of conduct, also through meetings and guided tours, and in collaboration with schools and associations. We are therefore working to strengthen the regional network, and make it even more efficient and widespread".
