Wildlife: Tuscany, a plan to deal with the predators emergency in the region officially starts, the first wolf hybrid captured in Arezzo.
The first hybrid specimen was captured last night in the province of Arezzo, an alpha female of 39 kilograms of a hybrid pack, a cross between wild dogs and wolves. The alpha female, after the capture carried out by the Interuniversity Research Center on Game and Environmental Improvements for Fauna purposes, was transferred, as required by the protocol, to a special center in Semproniano in the province of Grosseto specializing in dangerous animals.
Here, after the necessary genetic tests, the animal will be guaranteed adequate maintenance conditions. The samples of the analyzes and samples will be sent to Ispra (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research). The Ministry of the Environment was also informed of the capture.
With this capture, on an experimental basis - announces the regional councilor for agriculture Marco Remaschi - the plan agreed in the last legislature between the Region and the associations concerned to deal with the predator emergency officially started also in its operational part. I made a commitment to do so and I repeat that we intend to go all the way to cope with a situation where the presence of predators has risen by 30% compared to 2013.
The capture campaigns will continue until August 15 in the province of Arezzo, and then continue in the province of Grosseto from August 20 to September 15, but outside the hunting areas to avoid intercepting hunting dogs already in training.
