DNA analysis
Floriano Massardi, regional councilor of the League and President of the Commission 'Agriculture, mountains and forests' of the Lombardy Region, spoke on the wolf issue: "The biomolecular analyses carried out by the ISPRA laboratories on salivary swabs taken from casalbordino have demonstrated that it was actually a wolf and not a dog that attacked, on two separate occasions, first a little girl and then a tourist. This shows that we were right when, in early February, we presented a motion in the Regional Council Chamber of Palazzo Pirelli to ask the Lombardy Region to use DNA analysis in the Emergency Departments to establish beyond any doubt the paternity of the attacks by predators on people or farm animals”.
A precise mapping
Massardi added: “The intent was twofold: to understand when it is a question of wolves or canids crossed with wolves, so as to also create a very precise mapping of these aggressive beasts that seriously threaten our livestock sector, as well as the safety of tourists and inhabitants of the mountains and valleys. Wolves are dangerous and cannot be in anthropized areas”.
Line certified by ISPRA
The representative of the Carroccio then concluded: “This line of action, recently carried out for a case that occurred outside the Region and also certified by ISPRA, demonstrates once again that we were right: DNA analyses are proving to be not only possible, but fundamental for developing preventive interventions”.
