Interference with human activities
"The Region has taken charge of all situations in which the wolf interferes with human activities. For example, for Alpago, the Region has provided ISPRA and the Ministry of the Environment with all the data and information useful for demonstrating that there is a situation of serious and repeated damage to the breeding activities that are practiced there. This effort has only resulted in the preparation by the competent bodies, i.e. ISPRA and the Ministry of the Environment, of more protocols containing the conditions to activate the derogation interventions that can range from dissuasion to the removal of the subject. Even if the initial request was set and aimed at obtaining the removal of two subjects in specific and limited situations". This is what the regional councilor for Hunting and Territory says, Cristiano Corazzari.
Stable presence
"With regard to the critical issues that have been detected for some months now in the Treviso area - the councilor is keen to point out - the wolf's frequenting of river channels should not be considered anomalous since further south, and precisely in the Rovigo area, a stable presence of the wolf has been detected for some months. The peculiarity of the Treviso area is to be found in the excessive repetitiveness with which that subject frequents urban centers, demonstrating an anomalous familiarity with frequenting highly urbanized and inhabited areas and circumstances. It should also be remembered that the same subject was subjected to a dissuasion intervention that evidently did not make it retreat from its unusual habits.
Change in behavior
Precisely this situation that represented a real novelty, that is the dissuasion that did not cause a change in the behavior of this wolf especially with regard to its approach to inhabited centers frequented by people, has induced new evaluations by the competent bodies (ISPRA and Ministry) to consider only the removal appropriate, hence the activation of the relative procedure that necessarily involves a multidisciplinary team".
