World Wetland Day 2014: World Wetland Day 2014, "Wetlands and Agriculture partner in growth"; the two "worlds" integrate with each other and can coexist, produce income and fight poverty.
The associations WETLAND ITALIA, SATA ONLUS "Environmental Surveillance and Protection of Animals and TRENTALBERI, are concretely active to protect, safeguard and restore territories and natural environments, through direct (rent of abandoned agricultural land and restoration of wetlands) and indirect actions (awareness raising public). World Wetlands Day was born to commemorate the signing of the Ramsar Convention, with which member states took on the commitment to protect wetlands as indispensable elements of the natural environment and pastoral agro-forestry economy. They celebrate the event with a day dedicated to nature photography to be held in the Torraccio swamp on March 21, 2014 at Montanlto di Castro Marina (VT).
The Wetlands Convention, called Ramsar's, is an important international treaty, which provides a framework for national action and international cooperation, for the conservation and wise use of water resources and wetlands. Governmental and international organizations, non-governmental institutions, communities, groups of citizens on the occasion of this important event, took the opportunity to disseminate public awareness actions, on the importance and value of wetlands and the benefits that this world produces on natural ecosystems, on biodiversity and on the collectivity of individuals.
The theme of the 2014 World Wetlands Day is Wetland and Agriculture, two situations that integrate with each other and constitute two worlds that can coexist, produce income and fight poverty, the slogan for the 2014 event is "Wetlands and Agriculture partner in growth ". Wetland Italia, Sata-onlus and Associazione Trentalberi onlus, with the agronomic technical opinion of the company Lametum Srl of Rome, are sensitive and active realities, to protect, safeguard and restore territories and natural environments. On the occasion of this important event, just to remember the signing of the Ramsar Convention, they made the commitment to spread the message on the importance of wetlands for the life of natural ecosystems and protection of biodiversity.
Neglecting wetlands, as well as sustainable means for water management and control, in addition to creating loss of biodiversity, jeopardizes the protection of the coasts and prevention of natural disasters, factors that affect climate change. Wetlands play a fundamental role as rainwater and alluvial water collection basins.
Situations that produce poverty among people and businesses, which suffer the destructive and negative effects of floods, overflows of rivers, and the poor management of local administrations in the area. The importance of these environments and raising awareness for their protection and safeguarding must not remain sterile words, but the sustainable use of these territories directly and exponentially affects the abilities of the populations to obtain sustenance and produce income, also and above all. for rural communities.
Wetlands and Agriculture are very important resources, with enormous potential, that politics and mismanagement cannot and must not neglect. The message: The wetlands and agriculture, two realities that wisely managed, can coexist, produce income and fight poverty. Our Network just to remember the event and the importance of the Wetlands, on 21.03.2014 organized The Day of Naturalistic Photography, at the Palude del Torraccio in Montalto di Castro Marina (VT).
