Hunting in Calabria: WWF Calabria's reply to Federcaccia was not long in coming.
In a clumsy attempt to take on the role of defender of the Calabria Region, always so open and available towards a certain part, Federcaccia ends up climbing on the mirrors, not before having agreed, without even realizing it, to the WWF thesis according to which the Department of Agriculture has slavishly adapted to their decisions, rather than to the indications and invitations of the environmentalist world and to the official documents of ISPRA.
Everything else is revealed as a vain attempt to raise smoke screens to hide the errors of assessment and the forcing that the same hunting associations were forced to publicly admit, with accusations and bitter internal controversies, and which led to the predictable rejection of the calendar. hunting by the TAR.
But, beyond the individual and numerous cases of contrast between the various "editions" of the hunting calendar (six if we also consider the drafts!) And the indications, especially by species, provided in July by ISPRA, the fact remains indisputable that, from time to time, the Region has adjusted the measures on the basis of the "advice" and "documents" of the hunting associations.
After all, it was Federcaccia itself that attributed the merit of this "privileged relationship" to itself, so it is really not clear why we should have kept silent, especially to those who are not hunters, the level of subjection and the lack of interest of the political class in this matter. of wild animals. If the Federcaccia was comfortable before, to the point of boasting about it, it is not clear why it should be sorry now to let it be known that the Calabria Region has acted as a diligent secretary.
Because by choosing to anticipate the hunt for some species first (see Quail) and to extend it to others later (see Woodcock), despite having the possibility and having been invited by the WWF to behave differently, the same region has made a clear political choice, favoring those who want to kill animals "in compliance with the law" and rejecting the proposals of those who, on the contrary, simply fight for the animals themselves to be better protected.
To read then certain statements on the census of birds made by hunters, it almost seems to be in front of a team of scientists all dedicated to research rather than shooting in the field of the "object of research"; when in reality the killing occurs without any criteria, given and considering that on the huntable species, according to the same "Guide to the discipline of hunting" of the European Commission, the research on the huntable species is completely lacking and above all, without any adaptation of the abatements to the real consistency of the hunted populations.
Completely laughable, from such a pulpit, is the clarification of the belonging of fauna to the patrimony of the community, as if they were not the ones who appropriated it with violence, in the name of a law made for their use and consumption.
Finally, in order to divert attention to the massacres of absolutely harmless species, they now stir the bugbear of diseases brought by pigeons (for which the Venetians should all be dead) or of the danger for fish represented by Cormorants (other than trawling, flying tuna boats and spadare!).
And slaughtering thrushes, woodcocks, larks, blackbirds, quails, etc. every year. etc. from what terrible diseases would the gentlemen of Federcaccia free us?
