Three new cases of African swine fever ascertained in Piedmont by the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Piedmont Liguria and Valle d'Aosta. The three positivity were found in the province of Alessandria, in Fraconalto (second positivity since the emergency began), Ovada (seventh) and Prasco (first). The positive cases thus rise to 83, of which 51 in Piedmont and 32 in Liguria. Swine flu could be one of the causes of death of Maria Elijah, the 17-year-old who died at the hospital in Perugia. This was supported by the family's lawyer, Antonio Cozza, heard by Ansa. For an official confirmation, however, we will have to wait for the histological examinations occurred during the autopsy.
The hypothesis is that Maria Elia was killed by one fulminant pneumonia, perhaps caused by the joint action of a virus, that of swine, and of a bacterium. The confirmation from the medico-legal point of view, underlined the lawyer Cozza, it will have to come from medicine and the work of consultants and experts. According to ISS studies on swine, "primary viral pneumonia is the most common complication in severe cases and is frequently the cause of death."
The investigators, again according to Ansa's findings, are evaluating the hypothesis of a virus. On the story, after a complaint presented by family members, the Public Prosecutor's Office of Perugia has in fact opened a file in which manslaughter against unknown persons was hypothesized and an autopsy was ordered. Exam performed Thursday, that however, he did not clarify the causes of the student's death, who attended the Ipsia Cavour-Marconi-Pascal institute in Piscille, in the Umbrian capital (The messenger).
