In 2014 the Zastava carbines in 8 × 57 caliber had jumped to the headlines for a maxi seizure of over 1200 specimens already sold or to be sold in Italy. After a first opening to release from seizure which took place first in 2018 and then in 2019 following the rulings of the Court of Cassation and the Brescia Review Court, in June 2020 the Brescia GIP ruled with a sentence of no place to proceed acquitting all the accused of the crimes ascribed. In this way, a long negotiation with the Prosecutor of the Republic of Brescia for the purposes of release from seizure and return to the owners of the rifles, who would have requested them following the procedures for putting them back in their pristine.
The Brescia Judge had also set a precise date of January 2021, as the deadline for requesting the return from those who have an interest in it. Following the news of these last hours on a reopening of the terms and in order to dispel any misunderstanding, the President of Assoarmieri Avv. Antonio Bana had a clarification with the Brescia GUP Dr. Bianchetti. The latter explained that there has not been a real reopening of the terms but only an integration, to heal a transcription problem in the previous ordinance which had unjustly excluded some legitimate owners interested in the release from seizure, who had made the request correctly before the set deadlines.
Il GUP it therefore deemed it necessary to supplement the same ordinance by leaving a further deadline for anyone interested in returning their own seized rifle. It was jointly agreed to open a new window for release requests until Tuesday 27 April pv Therefore, those who are still interested in obtaining the return of their Zastava rifle are invited to send their request personally or with the help of a lawyer to the Brescia GUP chancellery no later than Tuesday 27 April 2021.
