Damages and compensation
“Our proposal to bring the army into the field to stop it was finally accepted the invasion of the 2,3 million wild boars present in Italy which cause accidents, cause damage to crops and spread diseases". This was made known by the president of Coldiretti Ettore Prandini who asked for adequate compensation for the damage caused in the summit with the Government which was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Francesco Lollobrigida and the Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto and the Extraordinary Commissioner for the Psa emergency, Vincenzo Caputo.
The thoughts of Italians
An action that we have been asking for for some time and which is shared by a large part of the population with almost seven out of ten Italians (69%) who believe that wild boars are too numerous while there is even 58% who consider them a real threat for the population, as well as a serious problem for crops and environmental balance as 75% of those interviewed for the Coldiretti/Ixè survey think. “The excessive presence of wild animals is a real national emergency which affects the safety of people as well as the economy and work, especially in the most disadvantaged areas” Prandini in underlining the need “for targeted and large-scale interventions to reduce the threat of wild boars at a national level”.
African swine fever
The packs - underlines Coldiretti - are moving ever closer to homes and schools, up to parks, destroying crops, attacking animals, besieging stables, causing road accidents with deaths and injuries and scratching around in waste with obvious health risks. The result is that over six out of 10 Italians (62%) have a real fear of them and almost half (48%) would not even take up a home in an area infested by wild boars, according to the Coldiretti/Ixè survey. “Reducing the number of the wild boar species also means slowing down the spread of swine fever (ASF) in those areas where there is a greater presence of agro-industrial chains linked to pig farms which guarantee income, employment and related activities for Italy” concludes Prandini (source: Coldiretti ).
