Sardinian hunters leave the countryside to take to the streets and protest against the recent restrictive changes to the regional hunting calendar.
Everyone says they are ready to go to the courtrooms to defend the first hunting calendar without the limits imposed by the new changes, with 8 January being the last day to aim the rifles at thrushes, blackbirds, woodcocks and snipe.
This was stated by the delegates of the hunters' associations who, during the demonstration in front of the Regional Department of the Environment and awaiting the outcome of the meeting of the Wildlife Committee, called a press conference to explain the reasons for the protest.
"It is useless to underline - they said reading a press release - that if the requests are not accepted by the Committee, further forms of protest will be implemented and legal proceedings started against all those who intend to prevent the proper and regular performance of hunting on the island. ".
The request addressed to the governor Ugo Cappellacci and the councilor for the Environment Giorgio Oppi is very clear: "We ask - explain the representatives of the coordination of the hunting associations - the immediate confirmation of the previous calendar with the addition of the derogation of the first ten days of February, as allowed by EU regulations and as granted in various Italian regions and neighboring countries ". And someone pulls out the calendar of southern Corsica: "You see - underlines a hunter - here you can go on until February 29".
Too many limits, however, in Sardinia. "The Sardinian hunting calendar appears to be the most restrictive in the whole nation - say the hunters - In fact, the hunt is only done twice a week, Thursday and Sunday, against the choice of three out of five days available in the rest of Italy".
The demonstration goes on. The largest banner reads: "The hunting fee has been paid for an already scheduled calendar: the calendar is changed, give us the money back." And now all awaiting the results of the Wildlife Committee.
