Serial thief of outboard marine engines "shot" by hunters. After being stopped and blocked, he risked being lynched and only the intervention of the police force prevented the worst. It happened on Thursday evening in Lova di Campagna Lupia, along the canal that runs from the Romea road between the fishing and hunting valleys of Figheri and Pierimpiè, and then flows into the lagoon. The perpetrator of the raid who risked big would be a 47 year old from Marghera. After spending the night in the guardhouse, yesterday morning he appeared at the Court in Venice for the direct route.
The judge validated the arrest, but released him pending trial. The theft of outboards for boats has always been an illegal activity that has always been known. It takes place along the entire Venetian coast. For a week in particular, the thieves had been targeting the moored boats on both sides of the Lova canal, near the storage building serving the Figheri valley. In the previous days, the hunters had noticed a person wandering around the area with suspicion. Not surprisingly, in two separate evenings, two installed engines had been stolen on as many hunting pattanelle. Too much for the hunters, who have decided to run for cover.
In order not to alarm the thieves they did not even file a theft report, but they decided to arrange guard shifts to try to catch red-handed thieves. Around 19 pm on Thursday, in the dark, a person arrived in the area in a car. After he parked near the slipway for the boats, he got on one of them, he unplugged the engine and deposited it in the trunk of the car. Not happy, he went back to land another theft. At this point the hunters came out of their hiding place and surrounded him.
The man tried to fight back and to escape, but he could do nothing against the furious anger of the hunters, who were soon joined by other local people. When the situation was getting out of hand, a patrol of carabinieri from the Tenenza di Dolo arrived on the scene, to which another one from the Vigonovo barracks was subsequently joined. Not without difficulty, the man was led to the barracks, where he manifested all his helpless anger against everything that stood in front of him (Il Gazzettino).
