The University of Basilicata collaborates with the Potentinian ATC in the capture and repopulation of the Hare.
The students of the "Faunal and Venatorial Breeding" course of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Lucanian university participated in the operations of trapping hares for restocking carried out by the ATC 2 of Potenza in Castelmezzano.
This is a fixed appointment between university students and the Territorial Area of Hunting 2 of Potenza in conjunction with the activities relating to the hare wildlife restocking plan for the territory of the same ATC; the same students of the Faculty of Agriculture generally participate in the operations of capturing and marking the specimens of common hare to be subsequently introduced into nature in areas characterized by a high suitability for the species included in this case in the territory of the municipalities of Pignola, Trivigno and Brindisi di Mountain.
The hares used for restocking were all reared on farms in the province of Potenza in order to avoid the use of animals from abroad and thus introduce animals into the wild subjected to careful health checks and which have spent a long period of acclimatization in large bushy or wooded enclosures without undergoing the stress of limited containment; in fact, immediately after capture, the hares are transported to the places where they will be released.
