Poaching - Lucca, 13 November 2009 - The birds were attracted by the singing of animals in the Gambia, then captured alive with the help of fine mesh nets and then resold as a call for hunters.
A Forestry patrol has discovered an entire fully fenced agricultural area dedicated to this activity. Subsequent stalking made it possible to locate the poacher just as he was intent on dismantling a bird net, to capture two trapped specimens.
Further searches in the area made it possible to find, under a roof, a large number of birds, ready to be illegally traded. The captive animals of the still stretched nets were immediately released, while the caged birds were entrusted to a special center for the recovery of wildlife.
