Despite the appreciable efforts of the Regional Council to stem the problem of damage caused by wildlife, in particular by boars to agricultural businesses, the situation remains unsustainable and out of control, with the discontent and exasperation that in the countryside continue to rise. It is the latest alarm on the boar "front", increasingly hot, launched by the Coldiretti Umbria which requested the Regional Councilor for Agriculture Roberto Morroni to call an urgent meeting with the Presidents of the three ATC (Territorial Hunting Areas).
We take note of the commitment made by the Region on what is now has become a real scourge for the agricultural sector - underlines Albano Agabiti President of Coldiretti Umbria - but unfortunately we still cannot grasp tangible results that can at least put a first satisfactory brake on this serious situation. What, on the other hand, knows no rest - continues Agabiti - is the proliferation of wild boars and the damage they cause to crops, with many farmers who no longer even report them. We asked the Councilor for an urgent meeting - explains Agabiti - especially to clarify with the ATC the procedures for emergency interventions, pursuant to art. 3 of the regional regulation n. 5/2010. In fact, it is necessary to simplify and standardize on the entire regional territory containment operations also by the owners / tenants of the damaged funds.
In short, certain, clear and streamlined and above all homogeneous rules, methods and timing are needed, which must be adopted by all three ATCs, to remove those uncertainties that are jeopardizing the positive regulatory intervention recently made in this area. To pay the bill for this age-old situation - Agabiti reiterates - cannot continue to be agricultural entrepreneurs who ask only to exercise their legitimate business rights, producing for citizens and not for vermin. In fact, in addition to the environmental balance, the presence of farmers is at risk, especially in inland areas, and with it that constant maintenance work that guarantees protection from hydrogeological instability.
If against the obvious climate changes, as well as against the coronavirus pandemic and not least against the fluctuations in the prices of agricultural products at the origin that are affected by the great international tensions, both the institutions and the agricultural world can do very little, at least immediately - reiterates the Director Coldiretti Umbria Mario Rossi - on this front we can and must do more immediately. The desire to consistently apply the regulatory instruments that the Administration has adopted is enough; we owe it to our farmers - concludes Rossi - who they are fed up with the constant raids of wild boars that nullify the work of a year and are already struggling with many other emergencies that risk weighing heavily on their company budgets.
