In this morning's press conference the councilor for hunting of the Abruzzo Region, Mauro Febbo announces the next initiatives of the Region in the field of Wildlife Hunting.
March 14, 2012 - The goal is to pass “from a consumerist hunt to an instrument for the management and conservation of fauna”. With this in mind, the Abruzzo Region will sign an agreement with the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (Ispra) and the province of L'Aquila with a view to drafting the new Wildlife Hunting Plan. The new hunting initiatives were presented this morning by the councilor for the branch, Mauro Febbo, and by the research manager of Ispra, Silvano Toso.
“In such a technical matter - explained Febbo - often the drift is that of controversy and exploitation, with the risk of losing sight of the real objective which is to conserve the environment. For this reason, the choice of Ispra, a nationally recognized body for environmental protection, will be able to support us in the regulatory process which, alongside the drafting of the new Wildlife Plan, will also see us involved in the establishment of the Regional Wildlife Observatory ".
In essence, the agreement provides that Ispra takes care of the coordination and supervision of the regional wildlife plan, the protection and management of groups of species such as hares (European and Italic), rock partridge and ungulates (deer and roe deer). The Abruzzo chamois deserves a particular speech, which will involve the Ministry of the Environment itself in a technical table.
The process of monitoring the wildlife populations, the formulation of a regulation for the management of wildlife groups, the definition of educational paths for the figures who come into play in the management will also depend on Ispra.
All this regulatory activity and preparation for the new regulatory path is also accompanied by the creation of an IT platform called "Artemide", aimed at managing all the wildlife heritage.
“The activities put in place - concluded Febbo - have made it possible to establish a constructive relationship with all those involved in the management of wildlife, to promote hunting based on real data, in line with EU requirements. Today it is possible, therefore, to regulate the initiatives in relation to local needs, in compliance with the correct management of the fauna, according to the provisions of the EU and to overcome the problems that often arise for the elaboration of hunting calendars ".
