Hunting in Tuscany: The hunting world rebels against the Brambilla. The proposal of the Minister of Tourism to abolish hunting provokes vehement reactions in Maremma. “Think about your sector and come here to see what we really do”.
The Maremma hunting world does not fit. The proposal by the Minister of Tourism Michela Vittoria Brambilla to abolish hunting triggers a real uprising. In Grosseto, the position of the national exponent of the People of Freedom, to which Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi entrusted the Ministry of Tourism, did not go unnoticed at all, on the contrary ... "It is not worthy of a civilized country to kill for sport - these are the words that they triggered the storm -.
Those who do not respect animals do not even respect human beings ". The reaction of the hunters, a mix of disbelief and irony, is shared by all associations. The first to speak is Luigi Strianese, provincial representative of Libera Caccia and spokesman for the civic list Hunting, fishing and nature. “It is clear: we defend the identity of the hunters - he affirms firmly -. Minister Brambilla, before making statements on the hunting world, should think about tourism. That is its subject ”. "As a citizen she can express her opinion on any aspect of life - continues the representative of Libera Caccia - but as a member of the national government team she would do better to respect her duties: if she does not, it means that she is not busy enough, evidently he has too much free time.
I would like to remind the minister that one of the objectives of the national center-right is to review the hunting law of 1992. We have long been waiting for the change that will adapt Italy to the rest of Europe, while maintaining the duties of hunters unchanged, which must undoubtedly be respected in full, but expanding our rights in line with what is already happening abroad. The minister's affirmation is particularly felt in Maremma where there are 11 thousand hunters: here many municipalities focus on hunting activities also to feed related activities, just look at the hunting festival that was held in Castiglione della Pescaia. Perhaps Brambilla has confused animalism with environmentalism ”.
Roberto Panfi of Enalcaccia Grosseto also commented on the position taken by the minister. “Perhaps Minister Brambilla has forgotten that the hunter is not just the one who shoots animals - he underlines -. He is an environmental controller: when he is at work he reports open landfills, problems of fauna and flora, possible fires. In addition, it offers a service to farmers when the animals of some species are too numerous and risk causing great damage to the crop.
In those cases it is the authorities who ask us to intervene. The minister must remember that hunting also benefits the economy: there are activities that live thanks to the hunting world and not only those that produce weapons. There is also clothing and related industries for the other sectors. In any case, hunters respect strict rules, we have many responsibilities both towards animals and the environment ”. Claudio Sozzi from Arcicaccia is also of the same opinion. “It is clear to the whole hunting world that Minister Brambilla has no idea what hunting is: we invite you to Maremma to spend a few days with us - he says with a touch of irony -.
It would be an opportunity to explain to her that hunting is a philosophy that translates into the defense of the environment, in the management of the territory, in interventions in favor of agriculture. The Maremma lives on the naturalistic environment and we contribute to preserve it and thus, consequently, we help tourism. The minister considers only the final act of the hunt and, being an animal activist, expresses hasty judgments: his intervention has aroused reactions even within the center-right.
Many argue that Brambilla does not really know the meaning of that word ”. And Federcaccia increases the dose. “The hunters respect the law - says Luciano Monaci - and even the minister should abide by the rules, instead of deciding on matters that are not his or her own. She should come to Maremma a few days, we would let her know the activities we carry out. It seems to me necessary to underline that hunters are the only ones who keep some portions of the Grosseto spots alive, areas that would otherwise fall into neglect because they are hidden and difficult to reach. Hunting is fundamental for the protection of the territory ".
