Hunting: Sondrio, hunters protest for the rules dictated by the Region regarding the hunting of the typical alpine fauna.
The Hunting Calendar of the Lombardy Region establishes the rules for the discipline of the hunting activity, among the upcoming innovations some concern the hunting of the typical alpine fauna and in particular the ptarmigan. The hunters of the province of Sondrio protest and the province supports them. The Lombardy Region is preparing to prepare the new Hunting Calendar and in this context a technical meeting was held with the representatives of the Provinces; as representative for the Province of Sondrio was the official Gianluca Cristini who, however, did not have the opportunity to assert the reasons of his own territory. In fact, the outcome of the meeting was not liked by either the hunters or the local politics as the provincial councilor for Agriculture, Environment and Protected Areas, Hunting and Fishing, Transport, Severino De Stefani, was able to confirm, "The Region reported that, considering that the ptarmigan is according to them an animal in suffering and that there are problems, unilaterally this year it will be possible to hunt only in the month of October, for about ten days. At the table, without any possibility of reply, it was decided that the maximum abatement limit will be that of last year. Eighteen partridges can be killed per district, with a stop at eighty percent. They established this without consulting the political counterpart and regardless of the outcome of the censuses ”.
Continuing De Stefani explains, “With this way of acting we undermine the relationship of trust that we have built with the districts, in an area already full of ties. The abatement plan is defined on a local basis, every year, with censuses that allow for the utmost respect for the fauna. But then they command from the Region. Some technical bureaucrats who are sitting behind a table must not come to teach us from Milan, how to behave ”. Finally the commissioner De Stefani concluded, “The officials would have been enough to hear us and the representatives of Brescia, the two provinces interested in this topic, to agree on the plans. Instead they did their own thing, without taking into account dialogue and traditions. If the hunters protest, they are right ”.
