Coldiretti - Federparchi: With 10 per cent of the country falling into protected areas, it is urgent to proceed with the reform of the Parks, combining the needs of environmental protection with the possibility of guaranteeing adequate economic development thanks to the 871 natural areas surveyed today.
This is what Coldiretti and Federparchi affirm in commenting positively on the Government's choice to speed up the process of the reform law on protected natural areas, recovering the bill presented in the past legislature by Senator D'Alì and unanimously approved by the Environment Commission. of the Senate.
The early dissolution of the chambers had blocked the continuation of the route. The process will resume the day after tomorrow, Wednesday 11 September, in the Senate, where the urgent procedure for the reform of law 394/1991 will be voted on. The modification of the framework law on protected natural areas, twenty years after its approval - underline Coldiretti and Federparchi - is particularly important with regard to the recognition of the role of farmers in the administrative boards of the parks, testifying to a now mature role of agriculture for territorial protection and enhancement of biodiversity and the decision to speed up the process has only positive connotations. In this period of enormous difficulty for the country and for politics - Coldiretti and Federparchi continue -, it was decided to give priority to a legislative passage which for the parks is an authentic watershed.
This will allow a further in-depth evaluation of the current draft both in the Senate and in the Chamber, giving the possibility to make further contributions to the text of the law. Parks and protected areas represent today an important resource for the country, starting with the opportunities it offers on a tourism level. According to a Coldiretti analysis on Ecotour data, in 2012 natural tourism registered a record of 101 million 799 thousand visitors in parks and protected areas in 2012, an increase of 2 percent, for a turnover close to 11 billion euros.
