Exponential growth of wild animals in Liguria, especially wild boar and fallow deer, which, undisturbed, in the period of forced suspension of any hunting activity because of lockdown, have pushed both into the big cities and into the municipalities of the hinterland, causing considerable damage to crops and endangering the safety of citizens. This is what matters Coldiretti Liguria in the letter sent to the Region to report, once again, the "numerous reports arriving from all over the territory for the unbridled proliferation of wildlife that is putting people's safety at risk, but also the environmental balance of vast territorial ecosystems and areas of high naturalistic value". This is why Coldiretti reiterates to the Region "the need to resort to urgent and immediate measures.
In the decalogue that we have presented, for example, the need to intervene for the simplification of the regional law regarding the self-protection of the agricultural fund, to adopt the rotation of hunting teams even from outside the region, to prepare the online monitoring of the culls for avoid the usual failure to achieve the objectives, of increase the use of fences and trapping cages, and to remove any compensation from the De Minimis regime ”, conclude Boeri and Rivarossa.
“Wildlife has now far outstripped those attempting to maintain and guard the land. - affirm the president of Coldiretti Liguria Gianluca Boeri and the confederal delegate Bruno Rivarossa - In our countryside, soon, there will be more wild animals than workers, while on the streets and in the cities it is not new, for some time now, to come across this kind of animals. The situation has worsened further following the lockdown of the past few months, where, with the less manned territories, wild boar, fallow deer and more were free to roam undisturbed continuing to grow in number".
"In our hinterland there are daily incursions reported by agricultural enterprises, where the bands and the classic dry stone walls continue to be damaged, while fruit and vegetable crops are raided, not to mention the damage in the vineyards and the threat they represent for farm animals. For these companies, losing the fruit of the work of recent months represents yet another damage that is added to those caused by the Covid-19 health emergency, at a time when it is more necessary and desirable, instead, an effective recovery of the markets”Explain the farmers.
"But more generally, the frequent incursions of wildlife are not only jeopardizing the survival of local agricultural businesses, but also the protection of the territory, the safety of people, the safety of the environment and of the animals themselves, given that such a high number of specimens can also facilitate the onset of epizootic diseases”, Ie the spread of diseases between animal species.
