A deer that fell into a canal was saved by the staff of the WWF Gole del Sagittario Oasis in Anversa degli Abruzzi
A magnificent specimen of Porto Cervo: Fortunately, the staff of the WWF Oasis of the Gorges of Sagittario managed to intervene yesterday, saving the animal that has returned to freedom. Yesterday afternoon during a normal inspection, Piercarlo Di Giambattista of the Coop. Sociale Daphne who manages the maintenance of the oasis and Augusto De Sanctis, regional coordinator of the WWF Oases, realized that part of the fence and the gates of the Enel collection works were open, just outside the border of the Reserve. Hearing some noises and thinking of a possible emergency situation, they carefully searched the area and noticed the presence of a beautiful adult doe imprisoned within one of the Enel canals.
“They were excited moments - says Piercarlo Di Giambattista of Coop. Social Daphne - because, after calling the Forestry, we tried to induce the animal to climb over the fence towards the woods before it got dark. For a moment the animal also entered the water but eventually managed to overcome the barriers. Thirty seconds later the mechanical cleaning mechanism of the grids was also activated which could have caused the death of the animal. It is a great satisfaction for an operator of the Oasis to have helped to save such a beautiful animal ”.
"In these days - said Augusto De Sanctis, regional coordinator of the WWF Oasis - in the WWF Oasis Gole del Sagittario numerous deer are observed, a real spectacle also for tourists who come to spend their winter holidays in Anversa degli Abruzzi. Unfortunately, the intake works around the reserve continue to cause problems for wild animals as in the recent past several foxes and two roe deer have died in the canals. Among other things, after the incident, we carefully walked the limits of the areas of the collection works and of the plant. Two gates were open and the same fence was found to be inadequate for large sections or even with openings. It is an evident danger situation not only for wild animals but also for people, since any kid driven by curiosity could enter extremely dangerous areas for their own safety. This is why we have notified Enel and the municipal administration for information so that urgent action is taken to ensure the safety of humans and animals ".
