For this Hunting Season in the Province of Genoa the new regulation for the faunal-hunting management of deer introduces the “search” for hunting deer, fallow deer and roe deer.
After months of mediation work and countless meetings in a technical table with the collaboration of ISPRA and the technicians of the Province, the provincial councilor for hunting, Piero Fossati, finally managed to put hunters, farmers, environmentalists and animal rights activists in agreement on the management of ungulates in the territory of the province.
The result of the agreement between the parties was the new, shared, regulation for the wildlife-hunting management of deer such as red deer, fallow deer and roe deer, which modifies the old regulation of last year by introducing hunting in the manner of the so-called "search", ie the possibility for hunters to move around the area in search of animals to hunt instead of waiting for them to pass through. fixed posting.
Councilor Fossati comments satisfied with the results achieved, "The new regulation for the wildlife-hunting management of deer is the product of a concertation method which has proven to work: the final text, which arrived after numerous meetings between all the stakeholders, in which the Province played only the role of neutral mediator, is due to the small "steps back" made by everyone, a sign of a constructive spirit and the will to solve problems ".
The new regulation was approved by the Provincial Council unanimously, with 31 votes in favor out of 32 present with widespread applause for the effectiveness of the concertation method applied da Fossati with success above all on a very controversial issue that has always generated strong contrasts between the social partners.
The only vote against was given by the councilor of the Greens Angelo Spanò who justified his choice with the probability that the new regulation is illegitimate as the five-year wildlife-hunting plan 2003-2008 would have expired for three years there is not one. new one; according to the commissioner Fossati instead the regional law provides that until the approval of a new wildlife-hunting plan, the previous one remains in force even if it has now expired.
The introduction of the “search” in the new regulation, prohibited by the previous one, was strongly desired by the hunting associations the Territorial Hunting Area 2 which in fact includes the Levante area of the Province; in ATC 2, however, hunting from fixed stalking has not succeeded up to now to provide satisfactory results due to the particular conformation of the territory in which the absence of pastures and open spaces considerably reduces the view of hunters unlike the ATC 1 of the territory of Ponente.
With the hunting technique of the "search" hunters can move in search of deer, fallow deer and roes in a wider even if delimited area; obviously the hunting activity must be carried out observing precise limitations including wearing a red jacket, carrying the weapon in safe conditions and not shooting from distances greater than 200 meters; non-compliance with the established limitations will be punished with heavy penalties.
The Province felt the need to authorize the hunting of deer in order to contain its strong expansion, especially fallow deer which, unlike roe deer, are not an indigenous species but have been introduced into the Apennines relatively recently; the excessive and uncontrolled proliferation of these ungulates, which are added to the very numerous boars, it is extremely harmful both for the local ecosystem and for agriculture to which it causes considerable damage.
