The hunting of deer in the province of Pesaro and Urbino closes in advance in order to better protect the species of roe deer and fallow deer already decimated by adverse weather conditions than in recent weeks.
The hunting of deer in the province of Pesaro and Urbino ends well in advance: the only area in the Marche where it was allowed. This was decided by the Regional Council, following the snow emergency which also upset the numerical consistency of roe and fallow deer in the internal areas of the region.
The hunting calendar established the date of March 15th, now it will end on February 27th. The same Province and the territorial hunting associations have solicited the measure, as there are no longer the conditions to continue the selection sampling.
"It is an obligatory and necessary choice, in order not to upset the natural and faunal balance of the Apennine areas.”Affirms the vice president of the council and councilor for hunting, Paolo Petrini“ The objective and scientific conditions that justify the killing no longer exist. The abundant snow that fell on the Marche and, in particular in the Pesarese and Montefeltro areas, caused a drastic reduction in the species which, according to reliable estimates, is seven or eight times higher than the natural one that occurs annually in the winter period " .
The hunting calendar estimates an average withdrawal of 11 per cent of the existing population: a percentage lower than that established by ISPRA, Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, which indicates 12 percent of the estimated consistency (with densities between eight and ten animals per square kilometer).
"Despite this - continues Petrini - the exceptional snowfalls and the long stay of the snow on the ground have led to a strong impact on all wildlife and significant losses of animals, when compared to a normal winter. A new census must therefore be carried out, as the population has radically changed compared to the forecast made last spring. A finding that led to the early discontinuation of selective sampling, in order to guarantee the conservation of the cervids in their natural areas ".
