The citizens of Conversano, in the province of Bari say they are exasperated by the presence of hunters around their properties and ask for the intervention of the municipal administration.
They are willing to go all the way to the European Court in order to have that "no hunting" sign around their properties recognized. For now, the residents of the Carbonelli, Parco del Monte and Tre Pile districts have presented a complaint to the Municipality, but nothing excludes that they can appeal to the TAR to see the right to a "quiet life" away from double goals.
There are about seventy families who permanently reside in these districts, located on the first Murgian step for those who enter the city coming from Cozze. They ask for the exclusion of rustic funds from the planned management of the hunt. They are tired of having hunters who enter their appurtenances and their agricultural land causing many inconveniences and dangers (they reported during the meeting held in the city palace with the municipal administration, in the presence of the deputy mayor Carlo Gungolo).
That of the residents of Parco del Monte and Carbonelli is a battle that has been going on for several years. The hunting activity has always been badly tolerated. Citizens claim to have all the requirements to make this request, with over 100 hectares of land of particular value, many farms and many tourists as guests. There are too many episodes of hunters daring on their properties. And annoying. The farms and gardens of the villas are littered with lead shot. In this area, residents' anxiety is skyrocketing.
They feel surrounded by snipers who wait and study the movements of the birds every day. A highly risky thing even for those who, like the residents and the numerous cyclists and runners, choose this area of environmental and climatic value to go for walks, but they often come across hunters with pointed guns. The municipal administration has ensured an intervention with the competent authorities, the Region and the Province. Not just shotguns, residents are asking for interventions on municipal roads, some of which are full of chasms.
They ask for the strengthening of the public lighting network also to keep the ever present malicious people away (thefts in the villas are a constant in Carbonelli and in the contrada del Monte). Road signs are necessary, especially on dangerous intersections that are often the scene of car accidents. The more assiduous presence of law enforcement agencies is important.
