Migratory Pass: Data from the Arosio ornithological observatory.
Although the outgoing week was not characterized by good weather conditions, because after an exceptionally favorable September we recorded the upper hand of gray days with some precipitation - which undoubtedly disturbed the good progress of the migration up to days 3,4, and 5 October when, having entered the heart of autumn with decreasing temperatures and shorter days -, in this context the appearance of the numerically abundant Song Thrush especially in Northern Italy was flanked by the excellent presence of the Blackcap and the Robin, traveling companions towards the wintering shores.
With them also the last summers, such as the Black Balia, who are moving fast; the very first Peppole appeared in the Venetian Pre-Alps accompanied by the nesting species on the mountains that with the first movements are moving towards the middle hill. At the Arosio della Fein ornithological observatory, the good reappearance of the Chaffinch was noticed and the first Swallow Sparrow of the season was ringed.
One wonders where the blackbirds and tits in general have ended up almost certainly penalized by a deficient reproductive season due to a last spring spent under the banner of bad weather with temperatures below the norm. Conditions that have also determined the scarce presence of Prispolone at the Arosiana station which has not given satisfaction in terms of number of catches unlike in recent years. From three other ringing stations located in Northern Italy we have news of the capture of three foreign Luì, a rather rare species in Italy and already ringed also at the Arosio Ornithological Observatory a few years ago.
The first information from Beccacce, shot down in particular in the mountains of Como, together with the observations of Alzavole in places congenial to them, should be noted.
While the migration continues, therefore, we are about to enter a period where the Italian territories are rich in quality of species that temporarily overlapping their ranges determine the next seasonal phases. It will always be the care of the observers to draw the necessary considerations while the fans of the Song Thrush (which still demonstrates the state of good conservation of the species) in this period try their hand at determining the age of the first subjects killed through the reading of the wings, research promoted and coordinated by Anuu Migratoristi, now in its 30th year of development, to contribute to scientific research which in recent years has been confirming the good health of the thrush population in Europe.
In this regard, we add the research promoted by Aect (Friends of traditional hunts) with the special form that involves all the followers of Diana through an international collaboration: the various reports of catches and killing of huntable turdidae are collected, divided by decade by months of September to February.
In short, a period of great commitment: on the one hand the migrants who are living an important period of their life, on the other the enthusiasts who, following them, are psychologically and physically involved in search of reliable answers on this beautiful natural phenomenon.
