A "new" plan for the slaughter of wild boars in the Colli area in order to safeguard the crops and the safety of citizens. Also activated a mobile number, 3423451810 (managed by the institution Colli Park), to which farmers can report any colonies of wild boars in the same area of the Park. The modification of the regulation for the control of "Sus scrofa" and "Dama dama" (these are the scientific names of wild boar and fallow deer) - in whose drafting he participated Coldiretti Padua together with the other organizations - was approved at the assembly of Euganean Hills Park which was held in recent days.
Among the main points, greater night outings by the 120 certified selecontrollers, in conditions of total safety. Usually they are positioned on the roof terraces, 313 those located in the woods, to get a wider view. During the first five months of 2020, a total of 320 specimens were culled (185 in May). Just over half of the wild boars removed in the same period of 2019 (587). Numbers reduced due to the lockdown, which lasted sixty days. Now that the activities have resumed, the goal, as Coldiretti points out, “is make up for lost time, starting ad hoc containment operations of at least 2.000 specimens by the end of the current year. The farmers ask us, whose crops are devastated by their passage: they say they are exasperated and angry at the same time.
The damages recorded are incalculable". There are currently over 10.000 ungulates in the Colli area. "The whole agricultural world, which often sees the work and sacrifice of months frustrated thanks to the incursions of wildlife, is clamoring to safeguard - comments Diego Bonato, member of the Board of Directors of the Parco Colli euganei Park Authority -crops and as a Park Authority we immediately moved in this direction. First of all we reached an agreement with the selecontrollers: together with them we are working together to solve the problem in the shortest time and in the best possible way ". Bonato also invites farmers to act as sentinels themselves to indicate where there are herds of potentially dangerous wild boars, to then be able to intervene in a targeted and timely manner.
Finally, a further call for tenders for 15 selecontrollers will be issued shortly; the latter, among other requirements, will be required to pass shooting tests at the Este range. "Finally a turning point after months of waiting, while our farmers have continued to count the damage, both on the Euganean Hills and in the plains - declares Massimo Bressan, president of Coldiretti Padova - with a serious risk also for road safety and the safety of people. The main focus must be the reduction of the wild boar population throughout the territory and to achieve it, constant and coordinated action over time is required. With the arrival of summer, wild boars will move even more, in search of water and food, and obviously they will target crops, from grapes to fruit, up to the olive trees. The impact of the other wild animals present on our territory should not be forgotten and neglected ".
