Poaching: in Todi, in the province of Perugia, a young man was caught by the Provincial Police hunting Hares at night in a restocking area.
In the night between last Monday and Tuesday, the Provincial Police of Perugia, as part of an operation aimed at preventing and suppressing the phenomenon of poaching, surprised a 19-year-old young man while poaching specimens of the Hare species within the area of repopulation and capture called "San Damiano" located in the district of the Municipality of Todi. The agents surprised the young poacher, residing in Pantalla di Todi, during the night aboard a vehicle not driven by him while he was hunting Hares with a 22 caliber semiautomatic carbine equipped with precision shooting optics.
The .22 caliber rifles are often used by poachers to kill small-medium sized game, such as pheasants, hares, minilepers and others precisely because it is an extremely precise, handy and easily concealable weapon; furthermore, considering the small caliber, the firing of these rifles does not cause a very loud noise, thus managing to attract little attention.
The young poacher was denounced on the loose by the Provincial Police agents to answer for the hunting carried out in a period of general prohibition as well as for hunting in protected clothing and with means and methods not allowed; the rifle, its ammunition and the already killed items were seized.
