Hunting with wild boar. From 1 December the health checks provided for by the implementing provision of the Regional Project Unit which regulates hunting in derogation to the boar in territories infected with swine fever in the wild.
The Local Crisis Unit on African swine fever of the ASL of Sassari has defined all the operating procedures necessary to guarantee sampling in the areas within which it will be mandatory to regulate the exercise of wild boar hunting.
Companies interested in exercising the big game notwithstanding in the infected area for the wild, which includes the territories of Anela, Ardara, Benetutti, Bono, Bonorva, Bottida, Bultei, Bulzi, Burgos, Cargeghe, Castelsardo, Chiaramonti, Codrongianos, Esporlatu, Florinas, Illorai, Ittireddu, Laerru, Martis, Mores, Muros, Nughedu San Nicolò, Nule, Nulvi, Osilo, Ossi, Ozieri, Pattada, Perfugas, Ploaghe, Sedini, Sennori, Torralba, Tula, Valledoria, Tergu, Santa Maria Coghinas, Erula, must submit a specific request as soon as possible to the Veterinary Service of the ASL 1 of Sassari.
In the last hunting season, a total of 1004 blood and diaphragm samples were taken, of which 193 in the territories under health restrictions where spleen samples were also taken. This activity led to highlighting the presence on wild boars of 77 cases of seropositivity and 3 cases positive for the virus.
"It is hoped, for this year, a wider sampling that will allow us to have reliable information on the health situation of our wild and to be able to exclude that the virus circulates among wild boars with the risk of transmission to domestic animals" explains the Director of the Prevention Department Francesco Sgarangella.
"The demonstration of the absence of viral circulation in wild boars, in fact, is of fundamental importance for the control of the disease in the territory and for the protection of domestic farms, as well as necessary to allow the withdrawal of infected areas". The controls will also make it possible to exclude the presence of trichinellosis, the cause of important clinical implications for the consumer of any parasitized meat.
The veterinary service is also available for the delivery to hunters, regardless of the hunting grounds, of all the material necessary to carry out the sampling required by the legislation and to provide all the information requested. Next week the Prevention Department is planning some meetings with hunters interested in hunting in derogation in the infected areas of Anglona and Goceano to define the operational aspects.
