South Tyrol: New cases of Silvestre Rabies in the province of Bolzano.
In Alto Adige there is the fifth case of sylvan rabies, a phenomenon that is still contained if we consider that in the Belluno area since the beginning of the year, 172 cases have been recorded and have affected not only foxes but also badgers, roe deer and even cats. "The number of cases in South Tyrol, compared to 879 animals tested since September, is the confirmation that the massive vaccination campaign launched by the Province is bringing good results", underlines Councilor Hans Berger.
The provincial veterinary service has carried out three vaccine bait launch operations from the end of December to today: 45 thousand in the eastern part of South Tyrol, 60 thousand in April up to an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level, another 97 thousand baits at the beginning of June, after the dissolution of snow, between 1500 and 2300 meters. The areas hitherto affected by sylvan anger have been massively covered, namely the municipalities of Dobbiaco and Badia.
The provincial veterinary service reiterates the invitation to people not to touch the bait and announces that from next week the countermeasures can be relaxed: once again the green light to walks with the dog. The ban, on the other hand, remains in force in Dobbiaco and Badia.
