To alleviate the problems caused by the overpopulation of wild boars the Basilicata region will verify the possibility of implementing initiatives aimed at economic operators to incentivize the withdrawal of carcasses and to finance the purchase of trap cages by farmers. This is what the Councilor for Agricultural and Forestry Policies declared, Francesco Fanelli, during a meeting he held in the Prefecture with the Prefect of Potenza, Annunziato Vardè and the Prefect of Matera, Rinaldo Argentieri.
The definition of an updated ordinance scheme was also discussed during the meeting to be sent to the Municipalities to authorize the capture and killing in urgent and exceptional cases, the need to equip the Municipalities with a greater load of game with trap cages and the need to request the Ministry of the Interior the changes already requested of the reads 157 of the 1992 in order to extend the hunting period.
Councilor Fanelli finally announced that "in order to safeguard public safety endangered by numerous road accidents and damage to agricultural crops, he will address the minister of agricultural and forestry policies, Teresa Bellanova, further and more pressing requests for the issuance of a very urgent government measure that allows the killing, on the whole regional territory, in derogation of the scheduled hunting periods and selective control plans". Assurances of a contribution to the actions identified by the Region have come from the Prefects. A meeting extended to the Presidents of the Provinces of Potenza and Matera, at theANCI of Basilicata and all other interested parties will be convened in the coming days.
