Wild boar hunting: Yes comes to hunting on wild boars in the Verona area.
Verona - 06.08.2010: This morning at Palazzo Scaligero the councilor for hunting Fabio Venturi presented the new regional legislation on wild boar hunting, which will allow hunting for this hitherto unhuntable species. The regional councilor for veterinary services Luca Coletto were present; the regional president of Federcaccia, as well as mayor of Verona, Flavio Tosi; some councilors and provincial councilors.
On Tuesday 3 August, the Council of the Veneto Region, at the request of the Province of Verona and other Veneto provinces, included the wild boar among the huntable species for the first time.
The resolution will actually allow the Province to implement actions for numerical control or, depending on the area, for the eradication of this animal. "In fact, the wild boar", say the administrators, without however providing data on how many these animals would be in the area, or data on the damage caused, "does not have natural enemies among the predators of the area, and its uncontrolled growth has caused considerable damage in recent years, especially to farms ".
«Furthermore, there have been several road accidents due to the impact with these animals, which can exceed 150 kilograms in weight. It is a species foreign to the regional faunal context and its presence in the territory is the result of illegal immissions. The regional provision, which allows wild boar hunting from November 1st to January 31st and its consequent numerical control, will be experimental for two years and from 2012 it will become fully operational in the hunting fauna plan ».
The hunting sector of the Province of Verona in the coming weeks will analyze the resolution and draw up the implementing regulation which also provides for the timely identification of the areas where the wild boar can be hunted and where it will have to be completely eradicated from the territory.
Councilor Venturi: “It is with great satisfaction that I announce this victory, for a result obtained after years of hard work. In May, as soon as I took office, I wrote to the Region underlining the age of the problem that the wild boar represented for the province of Verona. The answer is this resolution of the Executive, which demonstrates how attentive the Region is to the issues raised by the Provinces and that, in Veneto, federalism is already operational in relations between the institutions. The possibility of hunting wild boars represents an extraordinary step forward for the Province, which from now on, thanks to numerical control, will be able to limit the sometimes terrible damage suffered by agricultural entrepreneurs even on valuable crops ".
Tosi, Federcaccia: “Today is an important day for the whole Venetian hunting world. The result expected for many years has finally arrived and this has been made possible only thanks to the teamwork between all the bodies involved. An activity that also involved the Municipality of Verona, which is very attentive to this problem ".
Coletto, regional councilor for veterinary services: “The animals that will be killed must be slaughtered with the appropriate veterinary stamp that certifies the absence of diseases potentially harmful to health. To do this, you will have to go exclusively to the slaughterhouses authorized by the regional veterinary service. The Veronese area also has one in Fumane. This act of the Region represents a victory for all those who worked to solve the problem of the uncontrolled presence of the wild boar in our territory. I had started this battle as provincial councilor and I congratulate the vice president Venturi for having been able to finish it in the shortest time and in the best possible way ".
