Wild boars: Lunigiana: Refunds for damage caused by wild boars have not yet arrived.
More damage by wild boars in Lunigiana. Coldiretti requests the immediate implementation of the regional law from the Councilor for agriculture of the Province of Massa Carrara, Domenico Ceccotti. It does so with an open letter, addressed to the head of the provincial sector, to urge the implementation of the measures provided for by the recent regional law 2/2010, which has modified the regional rules on wildlife management and hunting, introducing new important provisions for the control of ungulates.
A law resulting from the pressing of the main agricultural organization which, in order to defend companies from the phenomenon of ungulates, wild boars, but also roe deer and wild animals, had invaded the center of Florence on 27 November 2008 with the most impressive event in the agricultural world in history of Tuscany. An act of force that has produced, after months of battle, the desired effects at the legislative level, but which have unfortunately remained, still on paper at the local level. In fact, the Tuscany Region has given the Provinces the key role of directly and autonomously managing the collection of ungulates with the possibility of authorizing their slaughter at any time of the year.
The reform of the hunting law provides in fact to allow hunting even with snow, and for longer if necessary, to limit what is considered an emergency, not only for agriculture. In case of damage to crops and livestock, targeted killing may also be authorized, including for starlings, eastern collared doves and pigeons.
“We know that the Province has already intervened in the coastal area, in particular in the Municipality of Carrara, but we wonder why in Lunigiana, a territory strongly characterized by wild boars still no. Because? The situation of real emergency - writes the President Vincenzo Tongiani, Provincial President Coldiretti in the letter addressed to Ceccotti - which has arisen in many areas of our province, due to the anomalous proliferation of wild boars, roe deer and other wild animals, requires putting the interventions required by law are in progress without further delays.
Therefore, I am urging you to adopt the acts for the identification of areas in which the presence of wild boar and other ungulates is compatible with the conduct of agricultural activities (article 6 bis, paragraph 4, letter i) and for the control of ungulates. , in particular the definition of sustainable densities in the various areas of the provincial territory and the adoption of withdrawal plans and extraordinary management plans (article 28 bis, paragraphs 2, 3 and 7) ". In recent days there had already been several reports of devastation by the Lunigiana farmers who hoped, after the approval of the new regional law, a quick and effective path to limit wild boars.
Farmers who have not yet been reimbursed for the damage suffered in 2009. "The Province must be able to guarantee the expected compensation to farmers - concludes Tongiani - while the Territorial Hunting Area must ensure all possible efforts to cope with the economic damage they are facing. undergoing companies. In an economic moment like the present one, delays cannot be tolerated. Our patience, and especially that of the farmers, is at the limit ”.
