The novelty of the 2011/2012 hunting season in Valle d'Aosta was voted by the Regional Hunting Committee
AOSTA. Revolution in the hunting world. The 2011/2012 season, which will begin in September, will be characterized by the revaluation of the wild boar. Which from ungulate killer of crops, to be taken without a limit ceiling, will become an example of the local fauna to be hunted with the same criteria established for other species. Ungulate hunters and, specifically, wild boar hunters will have to kill the animals present in the hunting district to which they belong (in total there are 9) and will no longer be able to move to other hunting areas. The decision, voted by a majority in the last meeting of the Regional Hunting Committee, follows a proposal presented by the districts of the Upper Valley and Lower Valley, the latter area where the considerable abundance of wild animals has always attracted hunters registered in other hunting districts.
These are the numbers relating to wild boar driven hunts in the Aosta Valley in the 2010/2011 hunting season. Upper Valley: the two teams have taken 35 wild boars. Middle Valley: the five teams killed 90 wild ones. Lower Valley: the number of wild boars hunted by the three teams amounts to 257.
«I have aligned myself with the choices of the majority - says Alessandro Durand, president of the Regional Committee for hunting management -. This step will lead to the establishment of the hunting districts, which have been encouraged by hunters for years. Everyone wants to take the animals from their own home, ”Durand says.
Will the control hunt for wild boars, very prolific animals, end? And for the owners of cultivated land will the nightmare of the devastation of the fields reappear? «If the need arises - replies the president of the 1.600 hunting enthusiasts of the Valley - it will be restarted with the intervention of the Forestry Corps and hunters. It will be carried out with the “endorsement” method. That is to say with a small number of hunters accompanied by dogs trained to track down wild boars in order to cause the least possible disturbance to the fauna ».
«We hope - they say in large part in the hunting environment - the end of the night and day hunts aimed at slaughtering wild boars in every season. Even during the reproduction period - they underline -. It is ethically inadmissible. We approve the choice voted in the Committee. Let the organized teams hunt the wild boar in the quantity established for the protection of the species. It is the most correct form of hunting », they conclude.
