Hunting in Veneto: The writer Dacia Maraini sends a letter to the President of the Veneto Region.
"Respect the EU directives on the protection of migratory birds" and "do not authorize illegal hunting of protected bird species throughout the rest of Italy and Europe". The writer Dacia Maraini asks this in a letter to the president of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, in view of the approval of the hunt in derogation, scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday 5 October.
"If the Governor wanted to silence the pressures of the 'hunters in derogation' and finally enforce the law - says Dacia Maraini - he would have jurisprudence, laws and the scientific world on his side".
"It is in fact useful - continues the writer - to remember that: hunting in derogation was declared illegal by a recent sentence of 15 July last, the nC-573/08, of the European Court of Justice which sentenced Italy to heavy sanctions; that the European Commission, on 8 May 2009, referred the Italian State to the European Court of Justice (Case C-164/09) for serious violations of the 'Birds' directive, 2009/147 / EC, by the laws of Veneto Region, expressly asking for its condemnation ”.
In the letter, Dacia Maraini also recalls, "that Ispra (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), with a specific circular (no. 25225 / TA61), demolished the contents of the deliberates on hunting in derogation of the Veneto, and that all the Italian regions, following the aforementioned opinions, sentences and laws, have decided, last but not least Lombardy, not to carry out hunting for protected birds because it is illegal ”.
"The Veneto therefore, in this illegal choice - concludes the writer - would find itself in a situation of total isolation".
