The "Memorandum of Understanding for the management in emergency situations of specimens of wildlife”, The result of the work of a special table set up in the prefecture to establish the operating procedures to facilitate the management of the wildlife, monitor the phenomenon and promote prevention and information initiatives. Present at the signing, in addition to the prefect Michele Campanaro, the president of the Province of Ferrara Barbara Paron, the councilor for the environment and animal protection of the Municipality of Ferrara Alessandro Balboni, the commissioner Cesare Capocasa, the provincial commander of the Carabinieri Gabriele Stifanelli, the provincial commander of the Guardia di Finanza Cosimo D'Elia, the provincial commander of the Fire Brigade Antonio Marchisio, Renzo Armuzzi, the manager of the Emilia-Romagna Region Agriculture, Hunting and Fishing Territorial Service, and Chiara Berardelli, the manager of the Veterinary Service of the Ferrara Local Health Authority.
The protocol provides for institutional cooperation between law enforcement agencies, Fire Brigade, Local Police, Emilia-Romagna Region, Veterinary Local Health Authority, "Delta del Po" Park Authority and Anas to carry out constant monitoring of the phenomenon of movements in the provincial territory of wildlife, in particular of ungulates mostly present in the Ferrara area, which have often led to dangerous conditions for road traffic. The intent is twofold: on the one hand, the aim is to prevent and reduce road accidents caused by wildlife - which in the Ferrara area is caused, in particular, by fallow deer and roe deer - through training and information initiatives to the population, so that they pay attention and indicate the presence of these types of animals.
In this way, it is also aimed at obtaining an updated mapping of the roads most affected by the phenomenon, facilitating the owners of the roads in the adoption of the activities of competence, in addition to positioning of suitable signs. On the other hand, we intend to monitor and manage the populations of wild ungulates, with the rescue of specimens in distress, injured or run over. “The phenomenon of movements of wildlife in the Ferrara area - highlighted the prefect Campanaro, on the sidelines of the subscription - calls for interventions by a plurality of competent bodies in various capacities. The signing of the MoU is also a sign of 'civic attention', as it will facilitate the connection between those entities, to the benefit of the effectiveness and timeliness of intervention, but above all to guarantee greater safety conditions on our roads". All the other 20 municipalities of the province also adhere to the document signed on the same day, to which it was sent for digital signature (Estense.com).
