In Grosseto, the problem of wild boars is becoming more and more relevant and damage to crops is added to those caused in the urban environment by ungulates that approach the cities.
In the last two months, in Grosseto, wild boars have been sighted three times at the gates of the city and in one of the circumstances it was not a simple sighting but a very close encounter. The last sighting dates back to the morning of Saturday 22 October and the animal seen near the Barbanella district of Grosseto, seems to have been a large specimen of wild boar.
In the circumstance that occurred on the first of October last to a sixty-six year old from Grosseto it was a real close encounter: at about 23 pm the man was traveling in his Ford Focus along via della Serenissima, near the hospital, when a large shadow suddenly appeared from the side of the road.
The man tells what happened, “I braked and swerved to try to avoid it, but the road is too narrow and my attempt was in vain. I couldn't avoid the impact ”. The car hits the boar hitting him with the front right in the rear, making it turn on itself and then slam its nose against the side of the car. The traffic police then intervened on the spot and carried out the inspection, finding the carcass of the animal lying in the gutter.
The problem of the motorist, however, is the compensation for damage caused to his car, about 2.500 euros, from the animal that should not have been so close to the urban environment and so, after having filed a regular complaint with the Municipality for the incident suffered, the man asks for compensation certain to obtain it since along the road he does not there are signs indicating the crossing of wild animals.
Unfortunately, however, the City are not of the same idea and the blame game begins, in fact the driver explains, “The road is municipal but in the Municipality they told me informally that these cases are not always compensated. And that, in any case, the competence belongs to the Province because the animal is wild ”.
Even in the provinces, man does not get satisfaction, in fact, he says, “They explained to me that wildlife is an unavailable patrimony of the state and ownership is not attributable to anyone. And for this reason the reimbursement is not guaranteed ”.
The response of local authorities, however, brings some confidence and Fabio Rosso from the Insurance Office of the Municipality explains, “The legislation is smoky and changes often. First the Region took care of it, then it passed to the Provinces. Here at the Municipality of requests for compensation for damage to animals, there are few, 4 or 5 this year, but recently we have liquidated one ”.
From the Province then explains Graziella Ricciardi of the Treasury and Claims Office, "If there is a wildlife crossing sign, no compensation is given. We have a lot of requests, sometimes even just for a stone in the middle of the road. In any case, for each one we have a file and, recently, a sentence of the Supreme Court in Umbria has allowed greater openness in liquidations ”.
