Meeting between regional councilors to prepare a common line aimed at finally resolving the issue of hunting in derogation.
The Ligurian regional councilors, Alessio Cavarra, Nino Miceli and Valter Ferrando, together with the councilors of the Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Marche, Veneto and Piedmont regions, have set themselves the intention of resolving the issue of hunting in derogation, stating that " For the first time we have chosen to work together, with an interregional initiative, aimed at definitively resolving, through discussions with the bodies of the European Union, the Government and the Italian Parliament, the age-old question of hunting in derogation ”.
During the meeting, the councilors agreed on some salient points for the issue including "Agendas concurrently in all regional councils, meetings by June with national (20 and 21 June in Rome) and European parliamentarians from all regions intervened ”- these are the first significant points that the councilors agreed in today's meeting.
According to the director Alessio Cavarra, “It is no longer possible to proceed without a full assumption of responsibility for exceptions by the various institutional levels. It is necessary to avoid that only the Regions are burdened with the task of acting on the matter, with laws or administrative measures at the risk of appeals and sanctions; for this reason, I believe that the issuance of homogeneous guidelines on the subject of exceptions can no longer be postponed by the Government ”.
Continuing, the councilor Cavarra explained, "It is necessary to open a discussion between the Regions and the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) to clearly define the conditions that allow the hunting withdrawal in derogation of the transfer, but above all to resolve the singular lack of scientific data for the determination of methods for calculating small quantities ".
Finally Cavarra concluded, stating that "a unanimous determination of the national government towards the European Union is needed, so that scientific studies and political will lead to a univocal request that overcomes the contradiction that characterizes Italy, the only Mediterranean country of the Union in which it is forbidden to hunt for starlings ".
