"The containment of wild boars in Umbria must be faced with a lot of determination because, as well as in many other parts of Italy, this species has now gotten out of control. It is a major problem for the damage done to agriculture as well as for public safety. Reasons why the Department is firmly intent on bringing this species back to a context of sustainability and balance". This is what the councilor for hunting said Roberto Morroni at the end of the meeting last Monday, which he himself called with the presidents of the 3 ATCs and the representatives of the agricultural associations.
The attention of the councilorship was immediately turned to interventions to prevent damage caused by failure to control and contain the wild boar species, with a constant discussion that also saw in the last meeting on Monday afternoon, dealing with the problems to reach the definition of further initiatives useful to remove them. From this meeting, in fact, after extensive discussion and after having clarified that for the containment interventions carried out directly by the owners or conductors the presence of hunting guards is not necessary, it was agreed to undertake a series of actions such as:
- encourage the collection of wild boar species by trapping, both with cages and with capture fences, with the commitment of the Region to issue in a very short time the requests for authorization that will be received by individual farmers;
- promptly report any situations of danger to public safety so as to be able to immediately activate, also with the involvement of the municipal administrations concerned, the necessary containment actions;
- review the cartography of the territory suited to the presence of the wild boar species.
Councilor Morroni also undertook to draw up a new Containment Plan for the wild boar species, on which the Region is already working, in order to overcome the individual provincial plans currently in force and to rapidly approve the new regulation of selection hunting, also for the wild boar species, already subjected to the examination of the hunting fauna consultancy in the meeting of last May 28th. "We will also make - concluded Morroni - some checks on the performance of the next hunting season and if necessary we will proceed with the modification of the regulation n. 34/99 relative to the assignment of sectors to the teams carrying out the driven wild boar hunt ".
