The 28st May at the Ministry of the Environment a meeting to address the problems relating to bear management named "M49", on which the Autonomous Province of Trento has written two notes to the Ministry of the Environment in recent months (on February 22 and April 15). On the question Ispra (Higher Institute for Research and Environmental Protection) has already expressed, at the request of the ministry, with two opinions.
In the first, made on April 2, it is believed that the behaviors shown by the animal can generically fall within the category of the "problematic harmful" bear, even if these behaviors do not seem to particular gravity. According to Ispra, more detailed data should be collected. It is recommended to continue monitoring and to implement targeted prevention interventions.
In the second opinion, dated 6 May, the same Institute confirms that the behavior of the M49 bear does not show particular risks for human safety, but nevertheless falls within category 17 of table 3.1 of the PACOBACE (Interregional action plan for brown bear conservation in the central-eastern Alps). The ministry, through the Directorate General for Nature Protection, gave feedback to the Province of Trento and, in reporting the assessment of ISPRA, specified that consider it inappropriate to authorize the requested intervention, giving its willingness to examine the matter better, with possible further documents, on 28 May.
