HUNTING: "The referendum is not the right way to solve hunting problems but if it does come, we don't fear it."
Many voices are now opposed to hunting and the amendments to law 157 who would like a referendum to decide. The PDL MEP Sergio Berlato and Senator Orsi are convinced that the referendum is only a threat supported by the data of the survey carried out in recent days which would see about 80% of Italian citizens opposed to hunting.
Talking about a referendum only means looking for a confrontation when what the supporters of hunting want is only to carry out their rights and enforce them. The referendum is not the right method to solve the problems of the hunting art world because it is not a question of dividing a country on the question of whether or not hunting is fair.
It is a question of finding adequate laws and regulations to regulate an art, hunting, which is very widespread in our country. The referendum is not the right place to legislate but Parliament.
But if the referendum is really to come, there is no fear of any kind on the part of hunting supporters who strongly hope that citizens have understood what their motives are. The reasons that push the counterpart are only personal reasons that do not take into consideration the close link that exists between the art of hunting and the well-being of the environment and fauna of a territory.
