Un overlying with refined technical solutions and decidedly innovative aesthetics: here is the Benelli 828 U, a model studied in every detail, starting with the name. The name 828U has a specific objective: to emphasize the number with which Urbino is registered in the list of World Heritage Sites defined by Unesco. The letter "U" instead indicates the city of Urbino. The line of828 U it makes the classic lines of “traditional” over-and-under items suddenly age. Benelli has been able to dare: starting from a project conceived five years ago, it has kept some cornerstones firm and radically changed others. 828 U Black, the strength of black in an elegant play of gloss and matt. The upper and lower part is presented in an elegant satin black; the central band takes on a glossy black, modern color, in effective contrast with the name of the model that stands out in white. 828U is an over-under that contains the most advanced Benelli patented innovations, it also offers extreme customization, as many as 40 possible adjustments between folds and deviation. Thanks to Perfect Fitting, the weapon becomes a natural extension of the hunter's eye and arm. The 828 U puts an end to the season in which to have a custom-made shotgun it was necessary to turn to a "football player".
Aesthetics and functionality make use of a high quality wooden stock equipped with Progressive Comfort recoil reduction system, already appreciated on the Benelli semiautomatics of the Power Bore range. The system has been optimized for use on the over-under, thanks to the internal modification of the number and thickness of the interlayers. These parts flex and therefore gradually cushion as the recoil generated by the cartridges increases, from the lightest to the most powerful. Thanks to a special polyurethane butt plate, the blow on the shoulder is considerably dampened, with obvious advantages also for the shooter's cheekbone guaranteed by the use of a polyurethane nose pad. In the stock, the butt plate-trigger distance is factory-set at 375 mm, but can be increased to 385 mm by replacing the butt plate. The shotgun can also be ordered with a shorter stock whose factory LOP is set at 365 mm. The forend is sleek and thin; a checkering to facilitate the grip extends over the entire base. Another detail is the dipstick release control that optimizes safety and ease of use at the same time: located at the apex of the dipstick, it is very rigid and this to avoid accidental releases, it will become extremely light to operate if we press the dipstick at the same time. against the rods, that is with a combined action and therefore definitely desired. The cryogenic barrels together with the cryogenic chokes guarantee optimal ballistic performance. The rib is in carbon fiber, there are no side ribs and the two tubes are joined only in the muzzle and on the monobloc, this allows for a lighter overall, easier handling. Furthermore, interference on the vibratory regime of the barrels is reduced to a minimum, optimizing their ballistic performance. The Power Bore barrels have an 18,5 mm hole. The cryogenic chokes are 7 cm long, supplied in five and suitable (except for the two stars and one star) for use with steel ammunition.
An important innovation that has revolutionized the standards of the category is the Lock Plate closing system: a simple and ingenious device that ensures a strong and reliable closure with the elimination of mechanical stress on the receiver. A new, unique and extraordinarily lasting way of understanding the closure of the over and under Benelli. The sturdiness is ensured by a steel plate that has a horizontal concave protrusion underneath with two projections placed one on each side. When the gun is closed, the plate engages the group with the horizontal projection at the bottom while its upper part enters a seat formed under the two upper appendages of the barrel group. In this way, the breech head is literally sealed and the plate-barrel assembly forms a separate unit. The hinge pins therefore do not work at the shot, but are only used to rotate the barrel group. Given the type of anchoring of the plate to the monobloc, it was necessary that it had superlative mechanical characteristics, as well as superlative the mechanical characteristics of the "tubes". The choice of materials and heat treatments made it possible to reach the set objectives without adding weight because the 828 U monobloc is completely different from the traditional ones in which the tubes are inserted into the sleeves of the monobloc; on 828 U it is the “appendages” of the monobloc that are inserted into the pipes. The monobloc of 828 U it is a single piece of complex shape made on the tool with very tight tolerances and characterized by the presence of two cylindrical “protuberances” on which the barrel tubes are invested. In addition to the precision of the machining, the advantage of having a single machining piece lies in the possibility of heat treating it to greatly improve the structure of the steel and its strength.
828 U was conceived with the user in mind: only by trying it you can touch the advantages "inherent" in the configuration and configuration of this shotgun.
Among these is also the movement necessary to "open" the weapon by acting on the particular opening key, thus conceived precisely in order to facilitate its activation by anyone. The agility of opening is one of the first evidences of this new way of understanding the over-and-under: on the one hand, not having to anticipate future wear of the opening system (thanks to the Lock Plate closing system), the effort required to open the barrels can be set to the minimum, so that it is agile even on a new weapon; on the other hand, the reset with the opening key means that, at the very moment in which the barrels are released for opening, the hammers are already armed and therefore the barrels descend with extreme agility as it is no longer necessary to counteract the reset springs hammers. Therefore: easy opening from the first use due to the innovative closure (LOCK PLATE) and easy opening over time due to the reset using the opening key.
In ' 828 U impulse ejectors have been adopted, based on the concept that "what is not there cannot be broken" and in compliance with the (statistical) fact that the ejectors are among the most stressed parts in a tilting rifle (and therefore subject to break up). The extraction system is totally contained in the monobloc, eliminating the mechanical connection between guard and fore-end. The pressure generated by the cartridge activates the pins, which activate the ejection, allowing the elimination of only the exploded cartridges. The trigger unit can be easily disassembled for ordinary cleaning operations; the weapon is equipped with a small ring with a metal appendage that fits into a special hole located just behind the bridge: by pushing the appendix towards the inside of the action, the trigger mechanism is released and can be extracted. The single selective trigger is inertial operation, with the passage from one dog to another by displacement of the mass. When fired, the hammer hits the corresponding firing pin housed on the locking plate and must pass through a special window created in the locking key shaft itself. This ensures maximum safety: if the shotgun is not perfectly closed, the percussion does not take place.
Benelli 828 U and 828 U Black represent the best completion of the collection of every hunter and gun enthusiast. Two models that represent at the present time the maximum technological expression applied to a shotgun with over and under barrels.
