The Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) announced its opinion on the wild boar selection hunting in the territory ofTerritorial area of Vastese hunting, in the province of Chieti. After the request of the same ATC, the documentation presented allowed ISPRA to express a favorable opinion on the withdrawal plan, in compliance with the times provided for by hunting calendar 2016-2017.
Specifically, these times have been defined consistent with the priority objectives of limiting the damage caused by wild boars, as indicated by the Abruzzo Region. The Institute has also requested to collect data on the withdrawal in a precise and capillary way, in order to evaluate correctly how effective these interventions have been. ATC Vastese and the Abruzzo Region itself were invited to continue on this path, updating the map of the distribution and extent of damage and prevention.
ISPRA also hopes that it will be quantified a minimum number of animals present: the calculation would allow to have a certain index on the wild population, so as to describe the trend of the presences over time. All these numbers will then be used to draw up the annual withdrawal plan to support prevention interventions.
